SM������ College of Nursing is advancing nurses’ skills with its innovative Registered Nurse (RN) to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Competency-based program. With the demand for skilled nurses , the SM������ recognizes the importance of practical and affordable nursing education programs. The RN to BSN Competency-based program offers students a flexible and personalized learning experience, empowering students to progress at their own pace while mastering crucial nursing competencies required in today's complex healthcare environment impacted by a shortage of nurses.

"The nursing profession has a direct effect on the quality of patient care across the nation," states Dean of the College of Nursing at the SM������, Raelene Brooks, Ph.D., RN. "Our competency-based program is designed to enhance the career and education of the registered nurse. Our graduates have an opportunity to advance their education, skills, and competencies to meet the challenges of the nursing profession head-on. The SM������ is committed to advancing the education of nurses by offering working adults practical and flexible opportunities to earn a degree. Through our degree programs, we seek to make a significant impact in improving patient care and healthcare outcomes."

The SM������ RN to BSN Competency-based program is designed for working professionals who have an associate degree in nursing, an unencumbered RN license and one year of professional experience. Students enrolled in the competency-based BSN can complete their RN to BSN in as little as 12 months. By emphasizing skills such as communications, coordination of safe care, critical thinking, holistic nursing and business management, students enrolled in the RN to BSN program can gain practical skills that are immediately applicable in their nursing practice.

SM������ alumna Dorinda Joy Miller, RN, who successfully completed the SM������ RN to BSN Competency-based program, shared her experience, stating, " The competency-based program at The SM������ fit perfectly into my busy lifestyle. I am a mom of six and have been a nurse for over 25 years. I started the competency-based program as a 50th birthday present to myself. The program was challenging but the phoenix support team and instructors helped me along the way and reassured me when I had doubts.”
